Reading Glasses: Rx vs. Readers
When it comes to reading glasses, most people make a trip to their local drugstore to pick up a pair of readers. While that solution is quick and easy, your over-the-counter (OTC) readers may not be exactly what your eyes need.
Zenni offers both convenient OTC readers and prescription reading glasses. So, what are the real benefits of ordering prescription reading glasses versus wearing OTC readers, and how do you know which to choose?
Prescription Power
OTC readers come in different non-prescription magnification strengths, also called powers. Zenni offers OTC readers ranging between +0.25 and +2.75, depending on your frame selection.
Reading powers greater than +2.75 are considered prescription strength, and we recommend consulting an eye care professional to determine your reading prescription.
Unique Vision Needs
If you have the same power demand in each eye, OTC readers can be a convenient fix. However, many people require different strengths in each eye. Your prescription may also call for an astigmatism correction, which OTC readers don’t address.
An exam with an eye care professional can help you determine if you have any unique vision needs that may require prescription reading glasses instead of OTC readers.
